How Does a Buyer’s Agent Get Paid?

One big question that we get is how does a buyer’s agent get paid? When a seller puts up their property for sale with a REALTOR® they make an agreement with that agent to pay them a commission.

That listing agent then offers a commission to other REALTORS® who have an interested buyer. When you are a buyer and you have an agent working for you, their commission will be paid by that listing agent.

When you hire an agent as a buyer that gives you the opportunity to have someone representing you in that transaction who is knowledgeable about that entire process and in turn they can negotiate things for you and hopefully get you a better deal.

When you don’t hire a buyer’s agent that means that the listing agent will be able to keep that full commission and you won’t be represented.
