19 Feb Winter Home Improvement Projects

Did you know that winter months are an excellent time to begin home projects. Winter improvement projects offer advantages over spring projects, such as great discounts. Start with small projects or upgrades that won’t break the bank. Below are a list of some of our favorite projects to complete during the winter.

  1. Paint – Adding a fresh coat of paint to your interior rooms is not only inexpensive, but can add significant value in both the long and short term.
  2. Add a backsplash to kitchen – Adding a backsplash will add some character and charm to your kitchen and will emphasize your cabinets, countertops and appliances. The cost of the backsplash depends on the size of the area, however, if you look around you are bound to find great deals. We re-did our backsplash last winter from tiles we got at Costco of all places and it turned out beautiful.
  3. Curb appeal – When fall hits, it is a good idea to fertilize your yard, trees and shrubs. This will keep your yard nourished in the dead of the winter and will provide optimal care until the springtime.
  4. Install programmable thermostat – Not only is this a relatively inexpensive upgrade, it also allows for you to save even more money on your heating and cooling costs by being able to automatically regulate the temperature in your home! Now that is a win/win in our book!

There are other projects you can do in the winter as well. We suggest you make a list of what tasks you want to complete and plan out when to complete them in the slow times of the winter. Make the most of your budget and your down time and work on those home improvement projects during the winter!
