St. Charles County is located to the north of St. Louis County, and includes many northern St. Louis suburbs. And with a population encroaching 400,000, it may be one of the best kept secrets around.
Just by looking at the landscapes and real estate, you can tell this is a great place to live. There are rivers, lakes, beautiful trees and great landscapes everywhere. As the wealthiest county in Missouri, they have a lot to live up to. But that’s no problem. In St. Charles, there is always something going on for everyone to experience.
There are nine conservation areas and wildlife refuges. The Katy Trail has 225 miles of fun for bicyclists, hikers, nature lovers and history buffs. The Confluence State Park offers visitors a chance to see where the Missouri River flows into the “muddy” Mississippi. If you love fishing, nature, and trails, check out the August A Busch Conservation Area. The Marais Temps Claire, Howell Island and Weldon Spring Conservation Areas offer adventures for young and old alike. And don’t forget that each municipality has several smaller parks of their own.
Although St. Charles has several residential areas, there are still have a vast number of museums and libraries for the historian in you. Plus there are lots of art galleries and music venues. For the sports fan, cheer on the River City Rascals, a Frontier League Baseball club, at the TR Hughes Ballpark. Or check out any of the Lindenwood Lions games at their home campus. If playing is more your thing, sign up at one of the area’s athletic associations.
It is home to five different public school districts: Wentzville, Fort Zumwalt, Francis Howell, St. Charles and Orchard Farm. There are also several private schools to choose from.
Much of St. Charles is just a short 30-45 minute drive away from the hustle and bustle of downtown St. Louis. But living a little farther away gives residents a peace of mind and allows them to have more of a rural feel in the suburbs. You’re still close enough to enjoy all the little things that a big city like St. Louis offers, but at the end of the day you can go home to your quite neighborhood. And seeing as how O’Fallon was named “Best Place to Live” twice, it might be a good idea to see what makes St. Charles such a great place to live.
